Milliken and Company Scholarship
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This scholarship program is for employees and dependent children of employees of Milliken and Company. The scholarship program is administered by the Center for Scholarship Administration (CSA), an independent, non-profit scholarship administration service.
When does the program start? The applications will be available November 1, 2010. Interested applicants may apply online at https://www.scholarshipprograms.org/.
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Applicants must: 1. Be active, full-time associates who have been on the production or non-exempt salaried payroll for a minimum of two years prior to December 31 of the year the application is made OR dependent children, under the age of 25, of any active full-time associate who has been on the production or non-exempt salaried payroll for a minimum of two years prior to December 31 of the year the application is made OR dependent children, under the age of 25, of any deceased, disabled or retired associate who was on the production or non-exempt salaried payroll for a minimum of five years prior to January 1 of the year of their death, disability or retirement. (Dependent children will not be eligible if their supporting parent is on the exempt management payroll.)
2. Be graduating seniors or have graduated from a high school, or is equivalent, or a student already attending an undergraduate college or university.
3. Be planning to attend an accredited FOUR-YEAR, NOT-FOR-PROFIT tax free institution by federal statue 501 (c) (3) INDEPENDENT COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY in the three-state area of Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Locations outside the three-state area will be handled on an individual basis.
What constitutes a complete application packet? There are two parts to the application process. You must submit the online portion of the scholarship application and then mail in the following additional materials: 1. Submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT with grades and cumulative GPA posted through FALL 2010. (If you are a high school senior, your transcript must reflect your SAT/ACT scores.)
2. Submit a one-page PERSONAL STATEMENT. The personal statement must include your strengths and your most important achievements in school and in your community. You may also include your hobbies, interests, sports, volunteer work, employment, future plans, or career goals.
When is the deadline for submission of applications? The online portion of the application must be submitted no later than DECEMBER 31, 2010. The additional materials must be submitted by mail in ONE envelope postmarked no later than DECEMBER 31, 2010.
What schools can the recipient attend? Recipients must attend an accredited FOUR-YEAR, NOT-FOR-PROFIT tax free institution by federal statue 501 (c) (3) INDEPENDENT COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY in the three-state area of Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Locations outside the three-state area will be handled on an individual basis. An independent college is a non-state supported educational institution that is ruled or governed by an individual board of trustees, and that receives a majority of formal financial support from tuition and grants.
How are winners selected? An independent Scholarship Selection Committee will select the recipients based on academic achievement and scholastic aptitude.
How will I be notified if I am chosen as a recipient? All winners will be notified by mail.
What is the value of the scholarship award? Milliken and Company will award up to 3 scholarships in the North Carolina and South Carolina areas. Scholarship amounts will be up to $5,000 each per academic year for undergraduate study only and may be applied to tuition, academic and general fees, books, and room and board.
How will I receive my funds? Recipients must be enrolled full-time each semester or quarter. Recipients must also submit proof of enrollment and grades each semester. One-half of the award amount will be paid each semester or one-third each quarter. Funds will be made payable to and mailed directly to the college.
Is this scholarship renewable? Scholarships may be renewable for up to three additional years, or until a bachelor's degree is obtained, which ever is earlier. A GPA falling below a cumulative 2.0 at the end of each academic year will result in permanent loss of the scholarship beginning with the next semester. Recipients must submit a renewal application along with transcript of grades each year in order to be considered for renewal of their scholarships.
